This was taken by Grandpa at the farmer’s market a couple weekends ago. Sofia is looking for good food through her “monoculars”.
Sofia is becoming very independent. She loves to try to do things herself and will get really mad at us if we try to help her. Like really mad. Like running full force at us screaming “I DOOOO IIIIITTTTTT!!” mad. Please, try not to laugh. That makes her run screaming at us too. It is so hard. I remember being little and hating it when adults would laugh at me. They were mocking me for sure, I thought, and I wanted no part of that. They would say it was because whatever I did was cute but I knew better.
Anyway, the bean, in her quest for independence, has become very resourceful. She carries around her “stoold” wherever she goes in the house so that she can reach what she wants. She never asks for help, the only sign that she was there, trying to reach something, is that we run into her “stoold”. We are used to them being in the bathrooms, so she can reach the toilet or the sink. We are not used to them next to the bookshelf, by the refrigerator, or in the hallway next to the lightswitch. Not so bad unless you find the stool in the dark. With your foot. At 3am. All joking aside it almost always puts a smile on my face to see it. It means she is getting bigger, doing things on her own, and feeling confident in her abilities. I know that reaching what she wants is great for her and makes her feel good to do that on her own. Almost always. Not at 3am. At 3 am my face looks like this:
We are heading out in a bit to attend Noah Holden’s first birthday party. Well one of them. But come on, first birthday! Craziness. I can’t believe it has been a year since we were all sitting around staring at Jacqueline’s belly, analyzing every move she made wondering if that day was going to be the day she was going into labor. And now it has been a year, and pretty soon we will be celebrating little Georgia Lee’s birthday as well. Where is all the time going?
Oh I know, it is going to weekends in Spokane and Ajay’s birthday. Sofia and I spent the 4th up in Spokane. Bebe and Grandpa ordered in the good weather and the good food. We had a great 48 hours swimming and eating and relaxing. A few days later we were celebrating Ajay’s birthday with Malaysian food and tasty cake. It was a mellow day but nice that we were all home together.
Saturday we head to Sunriver for a week with the family. I can’t wait to see the clan from London, I can’t wait to spend a week with cousins, grandparents, Aunties and Uncles, but mainly I can’t wait to have 5 days of time away with Ajay and the bean. I don’t mind the time tickin’ away when it is tickin’ to the good stuff.
If I had a penny for every time Sofia asked this question I would have a million pennies. And now you are probably asking that question as we have been MIA for the past few weeks. No idea how it has been three weeks since our last post. We have been busy that is for sure. We were so blessed to have two of my great friends from college come and visit us. Stacey and Lysee, Stacey bringing her almost three year old son, Ryan, with her. I was happy they were coming but a little stressed thinking about how Sofia might behave. She had been doing so well with her pushing and hitting, keeping it under control most of the time. Lately though she has been regressing and is having a harder time controlling her behavior and emotions. I didn’t want Stacey to come all this way only to have Sofia make her son cry. I didn’t have to worry though, Sofia did have her moments but Ryan could also hold his own. For the most part they were two peas in a pod and had a great time together. We had a barbecue, went to the park, showed them the coast and Cannon Beach and even managed to get a girls night out (thank you Auntie Gigi for watching the kids!) It was sad to see them leave but hopefully we can persuade them to come back this fall. You can see all our pics from their trip here.
Other than that we are enjoying the summer. I can’t believe it is the end of June already. How time is flying. We are taking swimming lessons again and Sofia has made friends with one of the girls in her class. Ella just like Eloise! Her mother and I were commenting on how this age is so great. I must say it is my favorite so far. Our good days far outweigh our bad ones. Not that they are really bad, but the tantrums can get kind of old. The other day she was crying for an hour straight. I thought I would scream or she would puke. Luckily she calmed down before either happened. She is getting more and more articulate though, saying how much she missed you while you were gone, or letting you know she is upset. “Mommy, I am upset”. Something so cute about such a little bean saying something like that. She is starting to play better on her own now, and will even sit and read a book herself. Well, look at it herself anyway. It is hard to think in a couple months she will start school. Only two days a week but still. School. School! How is that even possible?
I can’t think about that now. Right now we are focusing on the rest of the summer. Spokane in a couple weeks for the 4th. Yes Nonna, we are coming. Will you be around?
How is it already May tomorrow? I don’t know where April went, and from my blog posts, or lack thereof, I guess we were busy. It was a busy month. First Eloise turned 3, then it was Easter, then Sebastian turned 5… yes you read that right, 5! I can believe our sweet little buddy is already 5. It seems like just yesterday I was cheering him on to crawl at the loft while Gina worked at Assaggio. My how time flies. I mean tonight Sofia came running into the kitchen saying how Dora pinched Boots really hard and Boots was crying. We had to have a conversation with her little Dora figurine about how we don’t pinch and it was time for a time out. She was sad but I told her we don’t pinch and before she knew it her time out was over. See Dora? Time really does fly.
